OKU Timur – May 16, 2026 – The Students’ Association (HIMA) of the English Education Study Program at Universitas Nurul Huda successfully organized the International Seminar on ELT (English Language Teaching) Series 8 under the theme “Applied Linguistics in English Language Teaching: Perspectives and Practices.” The event was conducted in a hybrid format, held offline at Campus A Hall of Universitas Nurul Huda and online through Zoom Meeting.
This international seminar was attended by various groups, including senior high school and vocational school students, university students, teachers, lecturers, and the general public. Participants came from different universities and institutions both nationally and internationally, joining actively as offline and online participants. The diverse educational backgrounds of the participants created an interactive and academically engaging atmosphere throughout the seminar.
The event was officially opened by Universitas Nurul Huda and warmly welcomed by all participants. In the opening remarks, the committee stated that the seminar aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and competencies in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching (ELT), while also expanding national and international academic networks.
The seminar featured three inspiring speakers from Indonesia and abroad who delivered insightful and relevant materials related to current developments in English language teaching. The first speaker, Prof. Dr. Imroatus Solikhah, M.Pd., M.E. from UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia, presented a topic entitled “Beyond Boundaries: Translanguaging and the Transformation of Literary Translation in the Digital Age.” In her presentation, she explained how translanguaging practices have become an important approach in the transformation of literary translation in the digital era and how they contribute to language learning and global literacy development.
The second speaker, Dr. Mansoor Ali Darazi, M.Phil from Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, Pakistan, delivered a presentation entitled “Using QTA in ELT & Applied Linguistics.” During his session, he explained the use of the Questioning the Author (QTA) strategy in English language teaching and applied linguistics to improve critical thinking, reading comprehension, and students’ active interaction in the learning process. In addition, Dr. Mansoor Ali Darazi also discussed various research methods in ELT and Applied Linguistics that can be used by students and researchers in conducting academic research. His systematic and interactive explanation helped participants better understand research concepts and their implementation in English language education.
Meanwhile, the third speaker, Siti Nur Khairiah, M.Pd., Gr from the Islamic Institute of Tulungagung, Indonesia, presented material about “Storytelling in English Language Teaching.” In her presentation, she explained the meaning and structure of storytelling, as well as effective storytelling techniques in the learning process. She also provided creative and interactive storytelling examples, enabling participants to understand how the method can be applied in the classroom. The session was considered highly interesting because it can help improve students’ speaking and listening skills, creativity, and self-confidence in using English.
All materials presented during the seminar received positive responses from the participants. Their enthusiasm was clearly reflected in the lively discussions and question-and-answer sessions throughout the event. Many participants stated that they gained new insights, valuable academic experiences, and motivation to further develop their abilities in the field of English language education.
In addition to gaining knowledge and academic experience, participants also received several benefits such as e-certificates, presentation slides, networking opportunities, and door prizes, which added excitement to the international seminar.
Through the successful implementation of the International Seminar on ELT Series 8, HIMA English Education Study Program of Universitas Nurul Huda hopes that this event will serve as a platform for knowledge development, strengthen international academic collaboration, and encourage the growth of innovative, professional, and globally competitive future educators.
