OKU TIMUR — June 13, 2026 —The English Education Study Program of Nurul Huda University conducted a debate training session as part of its preparation for the National University Debating Championship (NUDC). The training was attended by four fourth-semester students: Nayshilla Zahra, Dinda Popy Aulia, Puput Lutfiyah, and Muhamad Rifa’i.
The session was supervised and guided by Miss Lia Amelia Ayatillah as the mentor. During the training, the participants learned various essential aspects of competitive debating, including motion analysis, argument construction, rebuttal techniques, and effective public speaking skills in English.
The team practiced using the British Parliamentary (BP) Debate format, which is the official format used in the NUDC. This format consists of four teams in a single debate round: Opening Government (OG), Opening Opposition (OO), Closing Government (CG), and Closing Opposition (CO). Each team has a specific role and strategy in presenting arguments and responding to the arguments of other teams.
In addition to understanding the structure of the debate, the participants also engaged in simulation rounds to practice delivering speeches within a limited time and responding to challenges from opposing teams. These activities helped them improve their confidence, teamwork, and ability to think critically under pressure, which are important skills in competitive debating.
Through this training, the participants gained a deeper understanding of the British Parliamentary debate structure while developing their critical thinking, analytical, and academic communication skills in English. This activity reflects the commitment of the English Education Study Program at Nurul Huda University to supporting students’ growth and participation in academic and competitive activities.
