OKU TIMUR, October 18, 2026 — Students of the English Education Study Program at Universitas Nurul Huda continue to strengthen their preparation for an upcoming English debate competition at Universitas Lampung (Unila). The preparation is carried out through regular debate training using the British Parliamentary (BP) format, which emphasizes critical thinking, logical reasoning, argument development, and effective communication in English.
The training session on Sunday, October 18, 2026, was attended by Muhammad Rifai and Puput Lutfiyah, both fifth-semester students, as well as Muhammad Ibnu Atho’illah and Siti Nur Khotimah, who are first-semester students. Through this training, the participants continued to develop their understanding of competitive debating and improve their ability to analyze various issues from different perspectives.

During the session, the participants studied and analyzed several debate motions covering current issues in technology, criminal justice, and international migration. The motions discussed were “This House Supports the Increased Usage of Generative AI in Game Development,” “This House Would Abolish the Public Accessibility of Criminal Records,” and “This House Would Implement an Open-Border Mechanism to Remove Government-Imposed Travel and Migration Prerequisites.”
These motions were selected to help participants broaden their knowledge of contemporary issues and practice constructing arguments based on logical reasoning. The first motion explores the growing use of generative artificial intelligence in game development, while the second examines public access to criminal records. The third motion focuses on the concept of open borders and the removal of government-imposed requirements for travel and migration.
Through motion analysis, participants learn to identify the central issues, understand the principles behind each motion, and examine arguments from both supporting and opposing perspectives. This process is essential in the British Parliamentary format, where debaters are required to build clear arguments, respond to opposing viewpoints, and defend their positions within a limited speaking time.
In addition to expanding their understanding of current issues, the training also aims to improve the participants’ analytical skills, teamwork, and confidence in expressing ideas in English. By practicing with a variety of motions, students can become more flexible in responding to unfamiliar topics and develop strategies for constructing relevant and persuasive arguments.
The debate preparation reflects the commitment of the English Education Study Program at Universitas Nurul Huda to supporting students’ academic development and English language proficiency. Participation in competitive debating is expected to provide students with opportunities to apply their language skills, sharpen their critical thinking, and gain valuable experience in academic competition.
With consistent practice and continued guidance from their mentor, the participants are expected to make steady progress and prepare themselves to represent the English Education Study Program at Universitas Nurul Huda in the upcoming debate competition at Universitas Lampung.
